Hello ASHRAE Saskatoon!
Has anyone lost their marbles? I know that these are busy times for some people, but my question isn't about that. I got a box of ASHRAE Saskatoon Research Promotion stuff from Chris Conley and there was a container of marbles in there. The marbles are from the ancient ASHRAE Saskatoon Marble Game for Research Promotion and I would like to know the rules for the marble game. If you know the rules, then please let me know.
I would like to thank those who have contributed to ASHRAE research so far in this 2011-2012 year.
Peak Mechanical Key West Engineering Ltd
Blake Erb Chris Watt Dennis Zbaraschuk Jeff Frie Jonathan Bushman Mike Nemeth
So far, $1,590 has been raised for ASHRAE research. Our goal is $9,500, so we are about 16.7% of the way there.
Our Research Promotion campaign is kicking into high gear in February, thanks to Kirk Nagus, Jesse Friggstad, and Ryan MacGillivray. These three volunteers have agreed to help me contact people to promote ASHRAE Research, but don't be surprised if you get an email from one of us inviting you to give to ASHRAE Research. ASHRAE recently got a new motto: "Shaping Tomorrow's Built Environment Today". The research money raised now leads to new technologies, better energy efficiency, and better use of resources tomorrow.
If you want to know more about ASHRAE Research, then please contact me. Remember that research money raised in Canada stays in Canada.

Our chapter has made earned the Full Circle award, given for leadership in donating to ASHRAE Research. Our President (Jeff), VP (Chris), Treasurer (Blake), Secretary (Mike), and RP Chair (Jonathan) have all given to ASHRAE research. I invite you to join us.
Why give to ASHRAE research? Here are a few ideas in random order: * It makes you and your company look good. * You are helping make existing technologies more efficent and save energy. * ASHRAE Research helps us know the science of heating, ventilation, A/C, and refrigeration better. * You are helping discover new technologies. * The University of Saskatchewan has been getting a number of grants, etc. from ASHRAE, so your donation helps Saskatoon. * ASHRAE is devoted to sustainability, so the research may help save the planet.
If you want to know more about ASHRAE Research, then please contact me. I plan to also have some pamphlets on ASHRAE Research out at the next meeting. Remember that research money raised in Canada stays in Canada.

Hello ASHRAE Saskatoon!
First of all, I would like to thank those who have contributed to ASHRAE research so far this year.

So far, $1,340 has been raised for ASHRAE research. Our goal is $9,500, so we are about 14% of the way there. Our newsletter now has the fund raising thermometer back. Yay!

Why give to ASHRAE research? There are several reasons occurring to me: to help find new energy-efficient methods, materials, and ideas, to help ensure we are working with current resources (remember when the Fundamentals Handbook office equipment data included heat gain information on computer card punchers and microfiche readers?), and to know more about how to make better buildings. Also, it can be kind of nice to get your name in the ASHRAE Journal as a contributor. Please donate to ASHRAE research and help make a difference in HVAC&R knowledge.

First of all, I would like to thank those who have contributed to ASHRAE research so far this year. Peak Mechanical Jonathan Bushman Michael Nemeth So far, $855 has been raised for ASHRAE research. Our goal is $9,500, so we are about 9% of the way there.
Last meeting, we had our Research Promotion Night, complete with the ASHRAE Society Research Promotion Chair (Dennis Knight), Region XI (B.C. to Manitoba and three states) Regional Vice-Chair of Research Promotion (Ray Sieber), and Region XI Director and Regional Chair (Erich Binder). People and companies that donated to ASHRAE research last year were thanked. There are still some RP donation certificates to hand out, so please come see me if you donated last year and did not get a certificate or commemorative coin.

Hello everyone,
ASHRAE Saskatoon's October meeting is a big meeting, so do not miss it. Not only is it Research Promotion Night, where those who have donated to ASHRAE research will be honoured, but it looks like we will have a number of VIPs coming. The list will likely include Dennis Knight, ASHRAE Society Research Promotion Chair, and Ray Sieber, our Regional Vice-Chair of Research Promotion.
ASHRAE research is important to improving our knowledge of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration. We are striving towards the goal of net-zero buildings, having buildings use so little energy that over the course of a year, the building will make as much energy as it consumes. There are all sorts of things to research that can each reduce the energy load or use nature's resources to do work for free. New innovations build on past achievements. We are invited to support ASHRAE research to do our part in helping with ASHRAE's sustainability goals. ASHRAE research hits close to home in another way, in that some of ASHRAE's research is doing done right here in Saskatoon. The University of Saskatchewan is a part of this and we can be proud of our city's role in ASHRAE research and improving HVAC&R knowledge. Please consider donating to ASHRAE Research.

Hello ASHRAE Saskatoon,
As your new Research Promotion Chair, I would like to welcome you back for another year. Unfortunately, my work will be taking me away from several meetings, so I will likely miss you at the first meeting. I will still be checking my email. Ryan MacGillivray was RP Chair two years ago and has graciously agreed to help out with answering RP questions while I am away. Thank you Ryan.
Some of you may not know what ASHRAE Research Promotion (or RP) does. RP simply raises money for Heating, Venting, Air-Conditoning, and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) research, some of which directly benefits Saskatoon. All the money raised for ASHRAE research in Canada stays in Canada and University of Saskatchewan research projects have won a fair share of the research funding. I think two years ago, Saskatoon raised a little over $11,000 for ASHRAE research and U of S student Mohammad Rasouli won a $10,000 grant-in-aid. I think Blake Erb (our current CTTC Chair) won a fair bit of ASHRAE research money a few years before that. The Saskatoon chapter's assigned goal for RP this year is $9,500, but I think we can raise more than that. I encourage you to donate to ASHRAE research and further the HVAC&R community’s knowledge. I intend to post the names of those who have contributed to ASHRAE research in our newsletters, so if you want to get your name or company’s name in the newsletter as an ASHRAE RP donor, then please give to ASHRAE Research Canada. Thanks.

In case you missed it, we once again had a 50/50 draw. Last month’s winner was Jack Scott – Congratulations! Our 2009-2010 Research Campaign year-to-date total is up to $6,357.50 (79.5% of our goal of $8,000). In addition to the above donors, we have another $2000 that has been pledged. If you have pledged a donation, please send me your money so you can be added to our list. If I haven’t already contacted you for this year’s donation, please let me know. Please send your money into me soon as June is the end of the campaign, and then we start all over again in July. I can take cash, cheque or credit cards, or payments can be made on-line. I will have invoices available at the meeting, or please use the attached form. Donations can be sent to me at:
Daniels-Wingerak Engineering Ltd. 3022 Louise Street Saskatoon, Sk. S7J 3L8
Donations are to be made payable to ASHRAE Research Canada. On a similar issue, I am looking for some donations of items that we could potentially auction off or conduct a raffle, to raise some Research Promotion money. This could be game tickets, concert tickets, prizes, etc... that you or your company has access to but won’t be able to use, or are willing to give up. The donation to Research Promotion could then be made on your behalf, for the amount raised for the item. Please let me know if you have anything we can use. As well, we are thinking of having a new Research Promotion Fundraising Event - possibly a lobster roast. Let me know if you would be interested.
On the other side of the Research Promotion trail, a University of Saskatchewan graduate student, Mohammad Rasouli, will be the recipient of an ASHRAE Graduate Student Grant-in-Aid. Thank you, and talk to you soon. □
