April MP Update

posted Mar 28, 2018, 2:37 PM by ASHRAE Saskatoon Membership

Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 10.  I hope you can come!

Our March meeting featured Devon Albellon, ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, from Uponor, talking on The (Un)Ethical Engineer.  This was not a normal ASHRAE meeting, with Devon conducting a ‘dramatic monologue’.  It was very interesting, and I hope you enjoyed it.

I would like to welcome the following people who have joined ASHRAE Saskatoon since July:
  • Adesola Olufade - Student Upgrade - U of S
  • Alistair Siewert – Arrow Engineering
  • Devan Kincart – Student  Upgrade - Daniels-Wingerak Engineering
  • Kyle Mostat – Trane
  • Jayden Rohachuk – Nu-Trend Industries
  • Matt Dunlap - EH Price
  • Ryan Johnson - MacPherson Engineering
  • Jason Lopinski - ENGCOMP
  • Jeremy Gaudet - Stantec

If you know these new members, please invite them to come out to our meetings, and introduce them to everyone else.  If you meet them, please make them feel welcome at our meetings.

Just a reminder, there is still spots available for the Fundamentals of Air Systems course, being offered April 10 and 11.  Let me know if you are interested in attending.  Cost is only $350 for members, for two days of professional development.

April 19th is also the free ASHRAE Webcast.  This year’s topic is Myths about Energy Efficiency.

If you have the equivalent of 12 years of ASHRAE related experience, including schooling and jobs, you are probably eligible for a membership upgrade.  If you think you qualify, let me know and we can look into it.

Copies of the ASHRAE Saskatoon are still available for pick-up at our meeting.  Thanks go to Air-Tech Management, Cypress Sales Partnership, Daniels-Wingerak Engineering Ltd., and Engineered Air for supporting the roster this year.

If you are interested in joining the ASHRAE Saskatoon board, please let any of the board members know.  I would be willing to help you out with the Membership Promotion chair position, if that is of interest to you.  Training will be provided by ASHRAE.

Please let me know of additional benefits you may be looking for from ASHRAE or ASHRAE Saskatoon.  We are here to serve you, the member.  Thanks and I hope to see you soon.

The (un)Ethical Engineer - Membership Promotion Night

posted Feb 28, 2018, 1:33 PM by ASHRAE Saskatoon Membership

For our March meeting, ASHRAE Saskatoon is having a Membership Promotion night on Tuesday, March 13th, at the ParkTown Hotel.  Guests to the ASHRAE Saskatoon evening are invited to come for the presentation and supper for only $10.  The speaker for the evening is Devin Abellon, from Uponor, who will be speaking on “The (un)Ethical Engineer: A Study in Principle and Practice”.

The integrity of the HVAC industry is dependent on sound technical design, reliable products, skilled construction practice and consistent maintenance and operation. But another critical element that is sometimes overlooked is professional ethics. As members within the HVAC industry engineers, contractors, architects, manufacturers, vendors and building owners are expected to exhibit the highest standard of honesty and integrity to safeguard the confidence that the public has in us. In this very competitive climate, however, it is sometimes tempting to "bend the rules" to some degree in order to gain an advantage over competition or to simply get the job done on time. But how much is too much? Is there a clearly defined line between ethical practice and "just the way things are done?"

“The (un)Ethical Engineer” is an interactive, multimedia, dramatic presentation that explores these issues through the eyes of a well-intentioned engineer.

See attached file for more information.

Schedule for the evening is:
ParkTown Hotel

924 Spadina Crescent East

South Dining Room

5:30 – Welcome / Cocktails

6:00 – Supper

7:00 – Chapter meeting

7:15 – Presentation

For more information, or to confirm your attendance, please email ryan.macgillivray@dwel.com .   Hope to see you there!
