John Daniels, ASHRAE life member, passed away on February 17, 2017.  John was a big part of Saskatoon's HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air-Conditioning) industry and the Saskatoon chapter of ASHRAE.  I would guess that most people attending ASHRAE Saskatoon meetings would be familiar with Daniels Wingerak Engineering Ltd. and some would know of Daniels Engineering before DWEL.  John Daniels was one of the original team asking ASHRAE for a Saskatoon chapter and he served as the 1967-1968 ASHRAE Saskatoon chapter president (though he had been acting president since August 1966).  (ASHRAE Saskatoon started in 1966.)  Back on February 4, 2008, our ASHRAE Saskatoon POWUr newsletter had a write-up on John Daniels' career.  The article has been posted to ASHRAE Saskatoon's website here: http://www.ashraesaskatoon.ca/history/ashraesaskatoonchapterhistory.

This month's topic is on CO2 refirgeration and heat pumping.  ASHRAE has been looking at both CO2 refrigeration and heat pumps for a while.  For example, the 2013 ASHRAE Handbook - Fundamentals (SI) has properties of Refrigerant 744 (carbon dioxide) on page 30.43 and the 2012 ASHRAE Handbook - HVAC Systems and Equipment SI has chapters on "Applied Heat Pump and Heat Recovery Systems" (Chapter 9) and "Unitary Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps" (Chapter 49).  Greg Scrivener should be a good speaker, so come join us.
