2016 - 2017 ASHRAE Saskatoon Grassroots Government Advocacy Chair - Ryan MacGillivray

Hello!  The position of Grassroots Government Advocacy (GGAC) is a new committee created at the society level a couple of years ago.  We have not had a local chair in this position, so this will be new for me as well.

The role of the GGAC, I believe, is to help with local advocacy efforts to promote ASHRAE to the government, including the adoption of ASHRAE standards.  As well, I plan on trying to keep you informed of government activities, which was the previous committee’s name.  I do hope to be able to share information on the provincial and federal levels as well.

We have a civic election coming up this fall, which would be great time to push our mayoral and councilor candidates for their views on implementing ASHRAE Standard 90.1 for energy efficiency in buildings.  At a minimum, if through their campaigning you are able to talk to any of the candidates, please share your views on energy efficiency and the role of ASHRAE in developing code-ready standards.  I hope to have more information soon!
