Last official meeting of the year coming up. I hope you’re all able to attend. We’ll be voting in next year’s executive, and also accepting applications for other Board positions. I’d like to thank Brent Wolfater and Blake Erb for stepping up to the plate (early!) and offering to help out with next year’s BOG, but it’s not too late. If you want to get involved let us know anytime.

I am definitely excited about our tour coming up. The UofS heating plant is one of the most advanced district steam plants. The UofS central plant uses a number of methodologies to increase the overall boiler plant efficiency.

Flue gas heat recovery on the three large boilers that supply 95% of the annual capacity.
An industrial plant management system which optimizes operation through oxygen and CO monitoring and trim.
All draft fans and pumps are dual drive and except for short periods in the summer are driven by steam turbines.
Automatic blow down control and recover heat from blow down.
Turbine exhaust is used to heat adjacent buildings
Condensate return on 90-95% of all condensate
Enhanced insulation on all steam lines

I’m guessing that we’ll also be able to look at the district cooling side, some of the largest chillers in Saskatchewan.

One more newsletter to go before I sign off as President. It’s been a fun year. □
