Chapter President's Message

March/April 2018

posted Mar 29, 2018, 8:52 AM by ASHRAE Saskatoon President

Hello All,

Our next meeting will be April 10.  It will include a very interesting presentation on free cooling. Also, this meeting will include the election of the board for next year, so if there is anyone you'd like to nominate, please let the board know.  We are still looking for volunteers to fill chair positions for next year as well.  If you'd like to learn how to get more involved, feel free to contact myself or Arron Andrusiak.

We are also hosting a CTTC course on the Fundamentals of Air Systems on April 10th and 11th. If you would like to attend or are interested, please contact Ahmed Abdel-Salam.

Lastly, if our Research Promotion chair has not contacted you yet, please consider donating to ASHRAE Research Canada.  All of the money donated in Canada stays in Canada and is awarded as grants to Universities and labs to help do the reseach that make the ASHRAE guidelines and standards possible.  The University of Saskatchewan has received a significant amount of these grants in the past, so the money does come back to our community.  If you have questions about how to donate, feel free to contact Ian Slinger.

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break!

Regards,

Christine Rogers

January/February 2018

posted Jan 29, 2018, 7:47 AM by ASHRAE Saskatoon President

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays, and for those of us that have just returned from the Winter meeting and AHR Expo in Chicago, I hope everyone has recovered well and enjoyed their trip.  The beginning of January brought some exciting news from the Saskatchewan Government. As of January 1, 2018 the National Building Code 2015 and National Fire Code 2015 have officially been adopted by our province. Also, even more exciting for those of us who have been involved with ASHRAE for a very long time, they have decided to adopt both the National Energy Code for Buildings 2015 and NBC 2015 9.36 which are based on ASHRAE Standard 90.1 beginning January 1, 2019. It has been something that we have all been advocating, and as we are the last province to officially adopt these new national codes, it has been a long time coming.

Our next meeting is February 13th, and I know Arron has an interesting program on Chilled Beams and Radiant Panels lined up for us.  I hope you can all attend as I don't think we've done a technical presentation on this topic before.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers on our board and those who are not on the board, but have offered a helping hand. I know it can be a challenge to fit ASHRAE into a busy schedule, and your help is always appreciated. If anyone would like to get more involved in our local chapter, or even would like more information on how you can become more involved in a technical role or at a Society level, please feel free to contact anyone on the board.  We are very lucky that in Saskatoon, we have some very bright minds who have been involved at the highest levels of ASHRAE and they are a great resource.

Hello All and Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. Now we are getting back into the swing of things with a brand new board of governers and some exciting events scheduled.  I am very excited that we have some new volunteers on the board and hope that they can bring some great new ideas for the year.  I'd also like to take to opportuity to thank those that have volunteered for the board.  Their time and effort is always appreciated.  That being said, we still have one position on the board open (CTTC) for anyone else who may be interested in becoming a board member, and if anyone is interested in joining as a member at large to become more familiar with the processes, they are welcome to join at the board level.

Our first meeting is on September 12th and will include a tour of Sasktel's new data centre.  I hope to see everyone there!
