Regular Meeting Minutes for ASHRAE Saskatoon Chapter 102

  1. Call to Order
    1. Chris Watt called to order the regular meeting of the Saskatoon ASHRAE Chapter at 7:00 pm on September 11, 2012 at the Parktown Hotel.
  2. Introductions/Attendance
  3. Reading of minutes from last meeting
    1. Jesse Friggstad read the April 10, 2012 meeting minutes.
    2. Motion to accept the minutes as read. (Blake Erb / Greg Scrivener)
    3. Passed unanimously.
  4. Reports
    1. Vice-President/Programs - Blake Erb
      1. The schedule to date is as follows:
        1. September 11 - Mark Sylvester from Armacell - Thermal and Acoustic Isulation
        2. October 9 - Shelia Hayter - DL - Integrating renewable energy systems into buildings
        3. November 13 - TBD
        4. December 13 - TBD
        5. January 8 - Mike Vaile - Daikin - Variable Refrigerant Flow
        6. February 12 - Tom Akerstream - Manitoba Hydro - Building Design Reaching LEED Platinum
        7. March 21 - Tom Watson - ASHRAE President
        8. April 15 - Kishor Khankari - DL - Statified Air Ventilation Systems
        9. May 7 - Terry Morin - Emerson - Airflow Managment for Data Centres
      2. Golf tournament will be in June.
      3. Any questions regarding programming to be directed to Blake Erb.
    2. Treasurer - Mike Nemeth
      1. Balances reported
      2. Emal plan invoices are available at meetings as well as on the website. An email regarding this will be sent to all.
    3. History - Jack Scott
      1. The golf tournament was well attended.
    4. Research Promotion
      1. Many thanks to our 2011/2012 Research Promotion Chair, Jonathan Bushman and his committee of Kirk Nagus, Jesse Friggstad and Ryan MacGillivray for surpassing the RP goal of $9500.00 and raising a total of $10,437.00. Overall ASHRAE chapters rose at total of $2,191,756 for research.
      2. Our October 9th meeting will be donor recognition night. The chapter will contact all donors and encourage them to attend to show our appreciation for their contributions to ASHRAE research. Our RVC for ASHRAE Research, Ryan MacGillivray will be in attendance that evening.
      3. Just a reminder to the ASHRAE board of Governors to make their minimum $100.00 donation to ASHRAE Research by the November 15th deadline for Full Circle recognition for our Chapter.
    5. Membership Promotion - Kirk Nagus
      1. New Members since June 2012:
        1. Daryl Potratz (Associated Engineering)
        2. Ryan Basaraba (Thurston Engineering Services)
      2. We currently have no delinquent members.
      3. If you have over 12 years of experience in ASHRAE, you may be able to be upgraded from an Associate Member to a Member.  If you think you qualify, please let me know.
      4. If there are any membership issues I can help you with, please let me know.
    6. Student Activities - Greg Scrivener
      1. Getting ready for a new school year.
      2. There will be a Refrigeration/HVAC class for U of S students as well as a tour.
      3. Would like to get K-12 science classes involved. Let Greg know if you know of any interest in this area.
    7. Membership at Large - Ryan MacGillivary
      1. Regional executive is wanting us to have on our local board a YEA coordinator, and a GGAC (Grassroots Government Activities Committee) chair – talk to the board if you are interested
      2. Will need to select a RVC-GGAC soon, training will occur at Winter meeting in Dallas
        1. Looking for names of people to serve on GGA committee (Chair, 2 Vice-Chairs, RVC)
      3. Ever want to get more involved in the technical part of ASHRAE?  – Standing committees are looking for members, names put forward to ASHRAE president soon
      4. RP committee charged by Board to raise $25,000 to create endowment of the Lynn Bellenger Scholarship.  This will count towards our RP goal, but want it to be additional money.  Amount split between all the chapters based on past RP performance and AAM (min $100, max $500).  Saskatoon goal $125, and would like to have the money collected by October 15th.
  5. Old Business
    1. Region 11 crc will be in Winnipeg this year
      1. Please provide any motions you wish to have made at the meeting
      2. Chris Watt and Mike Nemeth will be attending
    2. Motion that the chapter cover reasonable expenses at the CRC (Bill Dean/Pierre-Andre Ranger)

    1. Board of Governors membership list is on the website.
