    6. Student Activites – Greg Scrivener
      1. Tonight is the first student night.  Thank you to all students who came out.
      2. We are strongly encouraging ASHRAE members participate in K-12 science and math programs and events.  I hope you take advantage of any opportunities you have to do class presentations or participate in programming like science fairs.  Please let me know if you have any involvement with these types of events or if you know of opportunities but aren’t able to participate yourself.
      3. ASHRAE has started a program this year to help student members and student chapters in developing economies by collecting and donating HVAC/R related books.  Please bring any of your unwanted HVAC textbooks to a monthly meeting or contact me to make other arrangements.

      1. We are planning two student nights again and students meal pricing will likely remain at $5
      2. We have agreed to offer a tour for the U of S HVAC class again this year.  Chris Conley and Mike Nemeth did one last year.  If anyone is interested in presenting a building they’ve been involved with please let me know as soon as possible.  The lecture/tour date is November 28th, 2011
      3. Greg will have more of an emphasis in K-12 education this year.  If anyone has any ideas or knows of organizations that need help in the K-12 science and math area please pass them on to me.
    7. Chapter Technology Transfer – Blake Erb
      1. We will once again be offering a Fundamentals course this year.  
      2. However, this time we would like to get your feedback on which of the 8 available courses you would like to see offered.  
      3. Please take a moment to fill out the online poll, and vote for the course you are most interested in.
      4. If there is enough interest, we may even try to hold the top two courses throughout this year.

          1. Ensured university class could get textbooks
          2. Organized tour and lecture for university students of Cameco Operations Centre with Chris Conley
          3. Awarded university scholarship to Jonathan Wiebe
          4. Sent in the membership application forms for SIAST. They received their books out of consignment inventory.
          5. SIAST scholarship will be awarded when class is finished.

    February 8th, 2011

    I.      Call to order

    -          Jonathan Bushman called to order the regular meeting of the ASHRAE Saskatoon General Meeting at 7:00 pm on February 8th, 2011 at the ParkTown Hotel.

     

    II.      Introductions / Attendance

    -          Those in attendance were:

    -          All RP money raised in Canada, stays in Canada.  Last year, Saskatoon raised over $11,000, and in return, Mohammed Rasouli received a $10,000 graduate student Grant-In-Aid.

    -          Chris will start the RP campaign soon.

     

    Membership Promotion – Ryan MacGillivray

    -          Tonight is Membership Promotion night.  Thanks to the non-ASHRAE members for attending.

     

    Chapter Technology Transfer – Jonathan Bushman (for Blake Erb)

    -          Fundamentals of Heating and Cooling Loads course was offered inDecember, with the Mechanical Contractors Association of Saskatchewan (MCAS), at their Training Facility.  Course was well attended.  Another course may be planned for this year.

     

    History – Jack Scott

    -          John Ross curling bonspiel was schedule for Saturday, February 26th.  We had received confirmation from only three teams, including us, so not enough interest.  Therefore, the John Ross curling for this year will be cancelled.  We will need to revisit in the future to see if there will be on-going interest.

    -          Tonight is Student Night.  Thanks to the students for attending.  Just a reminder that every ASHRAE meeting is only $5 for students for supper.

    -          ASHRAE is an international society, offering technical presentations and networking oppurtunities.  If you would like more information, please talk to any member of the board.

    -          Student interaction event:  Students were encouraged to interact with the ASHRAE members to determine what their ASHRAE related jobs, and fill in a questionnaire.  All questionnaires were put into a draw for a $20 gift certificate to Earls.  Winner selected by Tim McGinn was Geoff Gerbrandt.

    -          ASHRAE Technology Awards:  We are looking for nominations for the Technology Awards.  Please bring forward any ideas of your work; even if you think it is normal for us, it still may be new and innovative.

    o   Motion:  To name Johnathan Bushman, Blake Erb, Jeff Frie, and Jack Scott as the judges for the Saskatoon local CTT Technology Award competition. (Ray Graves / Greg Scrivener)
