What's in a name - POWUR Newsletter

ASHRAE Saskatoon's primary communication tool with our members is our newsletter which goes back many years. Many have asked where does POWUR come from?

Formerly POWUr, it is an acronym for Potash, Oil, Wheat and Uranium. As Wikipedia puts it:

The economy of Saskatoon has been associated with potash, oil and agriculture (specifically wheat), resulting in the moniker "POW City".[10] Various grains, livestock, oil and gas, potash, uranium, gold, diamond, coal and their spin off industries fuel the economy.[11][12] The world's largest publicly traded uranium company, Cameco, and the world's largest potash producer, PotashCorp, have corporate headquarters in Saskatoon.

We've recently started capitalizing the R to recognize the incredible renewable energy resources Saskatchewan possesses in solar and wind.
